Today, I got a newsletter from Yahoo! Search Marketing about how to improve your landing pages for Affiliate Marketing. I’ve tweaked those information and I believe that its even more better. These are simply a set of suggestions about how to optimize or improve your landing pages for better conversions.

1. Why should they buy from you?

You may ask yourself the question "Why should I buy from this site?" so think about that and add a strong reason. For example give a discount to your visitors by offering a cash back or coupons to save money.

2. Keep them with you

Protect your landing pages from the #1 threat to conversions: site flow disruption. After identifying a unique and compelling Value Proposition, you must ensure that you express it throughout your sales process in a clear, consistent and compelling way. Eliminate site flow disruption to help maximize conversions.

3. Don’t say too much about the product

Don’t clutter your landing page with unnecessary details. What’s important is to clearly state your key message using as few words as possible. Give brief descriptions about the product and use bulleted lists to highlight the features of the product.

4. Make it as simple as possible

Use meaningful and high quality images only and don’t put irrelevant images and also make sure that you use user friendly colors and contrast so that your visitors can read the test easily. Use a color to distinguish between visited links and unvisited links. Make your logo clickable that should take the visitor to your home page. I’ve noticed that most of the landing pages avoid that. When I click an ad it goes to a landing page with a form to collect our address with little information about the product without any link to their homepage. That distracts me as I have to enter the address manually. Make sure that there is no horizontal scroll bar in the page as visitors hate that. Don’t direct links to new browser windows and also don’t use flash in the landing page.

5. Don’t promote multiple products in a single page

Focus one product a time it means that don’t add too many products onto one screen. All the important information about the product must be visible clearly without having to scroll down.

6. Add large images of the product

If you are promoting a physical product then provide product details and a large product image while displaying any incentives —such as free shipping and warranty information in a visible space — high on the page and close to the product. Don’t discourage visitors by requiring registration to your site.

7. Don’t put Pay-Per-Click ads in your landing pages

Don’t put Google AdSense or other pay-per-click ads on the same page as it reduces the conversion significantly. I have created a landing page and then put AdSense in it. I was surprised that my CTR (Click Through Rate) in Google AdSense was over 60%. It means that out of 100 visitors to my landing page 60 of them have exited from the page by clicking AdSense ads. But in fact it was a top keywords and I got anywhere between $1 to $3 a click.

8. Search yourself

Make your site easy to navigate by helping potential customers find what they are looking for as quickly and easily as possible. A search feature box should be simple and visible with a type-in field, not a link. To help increase conversions, make sure your search results link to product pages.

9. Add testimonials about the product

Convince people about the product so adding few testimonials increases your credibility.

10. Compare the product with the competitors

Compare the affiliate product with its competitors and prove that "this product is better than the other" by adding reviews, ratings and comparisons.
