The hardest job for affiliates is not designing the site, choosing merchants to promote or deciding what subject or niche to work in — it’s generating the actual content that will make a website interesting and encourage visitors to come back.

The more original, quality content you produce, the better your website will be. The better your website is, the easier it is to rank well in search engines, get new and returning visitors and, most importantly, refer sales.

Here are the first 5 out of 10 ideas to help you produce your own unique content for your website.

1. Set up a Glossary of Terms

Whatever niche your website falls into, there are going to be certain words and phrases particular to that subject. This can be one page of only the most common terms, or a whole alphabetical section on meanings and definitions across the industry. When defining the terms, you can link to the specific pages on your site or on a merchant’s site for examples.

The benefit here is that this page only needs updating when new terms are in use, which is probably quite rare. So the hard work is in setting this up rather than maintaining it!

2. Write a Review

Writing a review is a great way to produce content on websites. Simply review something in your niche that you know about! What is it? Where is it from? What special features does it have or why does it stand out from the competition? What are the new developments around it or how does it relate to your niche as a whole? Don’t forget to include your opinion on whether it’s good or bad, plus anything else your visitors would like to know!

This approach is easy to start but it does require regular reviews to be written to keep this section up-to-date and valuable to your visitors. How regular you need to review depends on how specialized your niche is. If you review all music, then you’ve got your work cut out for you. If you only review new Dance music, then keeping up with reviews would be a bit a easier. If you only review one band, then this would not require quite as much maintenance.

3. Offer News and Updates

Offer your visitors a resource for all the latest news and updates in your industry. You won’t have to write as much you would for a review, but it is something that you will want to update at least weekly, if not more often.
Don’t worry—you don’t have to be a journalist to provide news and updates. You can simply provide a headline and a brief description of the topic and then link to one of the major news sites so the visitor can find out more.

4. Tell the Story

Every industry, every product, and every brand has some history. Some have a rich, interesting and varied history, others may be pretty straight forward. You can choose to write about the history of the niche as a whole, the players (companies, products) within that niche and the developments and changes that have occurred over time. Plus you may just learn something as well!

This section may take some time and effort to initially compile and set up, but once it is complete it would rarely need updating.

5. Give them Instructions, Guides and Tips

Visitors always want information to maximize their use of a product or service. If you have tips and advice about how to do something quicker, cheaper, better, simpler or not at all, then you can write an article to post on your website.

These sections also provide a good base for cross selling. If there’s a product that will help a user, then you can write about that product and provide your affiliate links so the user can make their purchase.

Another benefit of these sections is that they don’t take much to set up, plus there is no need for regular updates. Just add tips and advice when you think of them!
