Over the centuries there have been countless ways of communicating with potential buyers, but the fastest growing one today involves using a blog to market products. In truth, blogging doesn’t have any greater results beyond other types of search engine marketing (SEM) techniques like SEO web copy, RSS feeds, SEO articles, link exchanges, etc. So although blogging is an excellent means to higher SERP’s ranking, it’s not the only SEO tactic to use.
But what is particularly interesting is the fact blogging can be used to market your products because any promotion is good promotion. It should also be said that blogs can help you with affiliate marketing too.
Blog to Market Your Products - Recent Events in the Blogging World
USA Today recently published an article on what they call ‘Gray Googlers’ - seniors who have time and use affiliate marketing to earn extra income. Many of them use a blog to market products they sell or they simply set up pages where programs like AdSense do the work for them. What’s even more interesting is that sometimes that ‘extra’ income can be over $100,000 per year.
Tips for Successful Blogs
Again, there’s much hype surrounding the use of blogs today. A blog truly isn’t any better than other methods of SEO (which can include keyword articles or web copy). It’s just another facet to search engine marketing. However, there are things you can do to get the most out of your blogs. This includes:
Change your look. Instead of having a blog that uses the same interface as everyone else, spice things up a bit. You don’t want to move too far away from your brand image, but does something that makes it look unlike the ‘typical blog format.’
Do keyword research. Make sure that the words you’re using are words that people are searching. If you don’t use the terms people are searching, they won’t find you. So before you sit down to write your blog for the day take a few minutes to find out what search terms are popular for the topic you’re about to write.
Remember that copy is important. While you do want to be tops in search engines, don’t forget the importance of writing well. Blogs filled with grammatical errors, typos, misspellings, etc. won’t build a strong reader base. Avoid overly technical jargon too. Many bloggers make this mistake, thinking it will make them sound more intellegent when all it really does is alienate their readers. So just be sure to express yourself coherently, first and foremost, and in terms the majority of readers will understand.
Network your blog. Seek out blogs that are in the same market as yours, but not in direct competition. For example, maybe you sell coffee mugs or dinnerware but you don’t sell gardening equipment. Exchange links with a gardening site so your blog offers information on home (from you) and garden (from your link exchange). You’ll broaden your blog base that way.
Remember, these are just a few of the steps to make sure you create blogs that capture, and keep, your reader’s attention. There’s much more that you can do to keep them coming back for more.
Two Easy Steps for Making Blogs to Market Products
Step 1 - If you plan to blog to market products or services you offer, the first step is to be consistent. Search engines don’t look for keywords alone anymore - they also check how often you update. With a daily blog, search engines notice that you have new information at your web site.
Step 2 - When you blog to market products or services, be sure the topics aren’t just about the product themselves. People don’t want to read ads. They want useful information so each blog used to promote your business should focus on the benefits you provide. For example, if you sell gardening equipment, don’t simply post that you’ve got a new spade. Do a story on how the spade cuts down your gardening time. Make sure your blog for your products is about the buyer; not just the product itself.
Remember, the key when using a blog to market your products is to make the blog original and informative. No one wants your sales pitch, but they do like reading about tips and suggestions on a regular basis. If you can do that, and do it consistently, then a blog to market your products will increase your sales in the long term.
