Wikipedia is now ready with an answer for Google Knol

Wikia is new search site ready to launch on January 7th 2008 would be recognized as Wikia Search. Site maker carries states that the searching topics would capable of ranking search result using the open-source software so as to improve the filtering of search engine ranking. The main purpose of coming up with Wikia is to introduce simplicity into the entire search engine process.

On the hand, Google’s clique says it would permit the people to manipulate the search engine process and highly believe that the computer-oriented results are the fairest and most excellent way to offer people with the apt information. It seems like Wikia search may threaten Google’s hegemony, however this new group of search engine would certainly take a while to evolve, just as Wikipedia took time a while to evolve its entities.

Many blogger believes that it is gonna be an interesting to try. Conversely, the key question over here is whether a transparent search-ranking algorithm would be scammer resistant? And another vague question is how successful Wikia would be in applying community aptitude to the search results. Although Wikia sounds really fascinating its 2008 search share may be a tiny one.

Whereas Jimmy Wales - Co-founder of Wikia is looks to be very excited about the launch of Wikia and have already send some email invite to the Wikia mailing list stating "I am sending out a few invites each day, and we are responding rapidly to feedback. The pace of invites will accelerate in the next few days".

It is quite clear that Wikia may act as a rival for Google. As well the news of launch comes as Google is testing its own version of Wikipedia via Google Knol Project. Google Knol simply trying to dampen Wiki’s techniques of encouraging people to share and contribute knowledge. Knol works similar to Wikipedia but the only difference is people could make money online through Google Knol and the authors are safe to build up professional goodwill without other participating authors editing the articles. With the strong reputations of both the online giant, it may not be easy for both to compete neither Knol over Wikipedia nor Wikia over Google search.
