Google’s PageRank Shuffle: Big Sites Say Bye-bye, Traffic?
That’s because PageRank is the key metric that Google uses when determining where a site will appear in its search results. It’s a 10 point scale, and each move up the rank means Google values a site 5 times more than a lower ranked site. If PR 1 has a value of, say, 1, then PR 2 has a value of 5, and PR 3 has a value of 25 — so a site with a PR 3 is 25 times more likely to show up on a Google search than PR1.
Google’s PageRank Update Goes After Paid Links?
Seems like there is a PageRank update taking place now that seems to be impacting sites that sell links. Can’t say that we were not warned about this. Danny Sullivan wrote Official: Selling Paid Links Can Hurt Your PageRank Or Rankings On Google over two weeks ago, and now it appears many sites are getting hit with a drop in PageRank.
The latest round of page rank scoring by Google has hit many good web sites very hard, in that the bigger list of A level blogs, and big blog companies like Weblogs.inc have seen a sharp decrease in their page ranks. This is leading to speculation that some of these sites will soon be joining the Web 2.0 dead pool, or have to reduce staff via layoffs.
