Many people who start a website think that it is possible to get high rankings on Google within a few days. Unfortunately, this is not possible. Competition on the Internet is fierce and there are several factors that influence how long it takes until Google lists your website.

1. How old is your website?

If you have a brand new website then you have to wait. You can submit your website to Google but Google will only index your website if other websites link to your site.   In addition, you have to prove that your website is not spammy. Google has several filters for new websites and you have to earn Google’s trust before your website can get lasting high rankings. A new website can get good rankings for less competitive keywords but it usually takes about 6 months to gain the minimum level of trust that is necessary to get high rankings.

If you want to link to a specific part of a video on YouTube, you can. For example,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjDw3azfZWI#t=31m08s

Notice the “#t=31m08s” on the end of the URL? That link will take you 31 minutes and 8 seconds into that video. Linking to a particular minute and second can be really helpful – for example, that link takes you straight to where someone asks Eric Schmidt a question about Twitter. From there, you can listen to his answer, where he says (among other things):

“We’re in favor of all of these new communications mechanisms. I think the innovation is great, Twitter’s success is wonderful, and I think it shows you that there are many, many new ways to communicate, especially if you’re willing to do so publicly.”

Google AdSense has been so successful you can find Google Ads in almost every site you visit. AdSense has truly brought a faster, more efficient way of earning money online while at the same time you get to do the things that you want on your site. This low maintenance way of making money has since become a regular fixture in today’s websites almost every site owner hopes to generate profits from these pay-per-click ads.

However while there a lot of success stories that have risen out of AdSense, there are still owners who find it difficult to use this money-making scheme on their sites, hence they still have to figure out how to actually earn from the ads.

  • Up until today, it’s been a little tedious to send large or multiple attachments with an email. You had to select each attachment individually and you never knew how long it would be before those bigger files were ready to send.  Uploading multiple attachments at the same time just got enabled. Gmail has warded off the tedious job of uploading files one at a time. Now Gmail will let uploading multiple files at a time, albeit, the maximum limit of attachments remains 20MB only. If you want to send a few files from the same folder, simply hold down the Ctrl key (Cmd on OS X) and click on each file you want to attach to your message. You can also hold down the Shift key to select a continuous list of files. A definite time saver.

You’ll not only save a few mouse clicks selecting files, but you’ll also see progress bars on each file as it uploads.

Despite the fact that Alexa is a pretty much controversial web tool to analyze the site popularity yet many people and some ad networks do consider it to determine or get a rough idea about the popularity of any website. Yahoo the 2nd most popular search engine had maintained 1st position in Alexa Global Ranking for long time. Google officially dethroned Yahoo from the top spot on Jan 5 this year.

However since then Yahoo managed to get back to top Spot on two days 10th and 17th (both weekends). This shift can be attributed to fall in number of unique visitors on Google on Weekends. While we all know that Google already dominates the search market by vast margin however it’s primary domain ‘Google.com’ was ranked No.2 by Alexa it could be mainly because Google.com is mostly used by US visitors as Google has more country based domains than Yahoo! for instance Pakistani visitors see  ‘ Google.com.pk’  and while Pakistani  visitors are directed to Yahoo.com the primary domain for Yahoo since Yahoo don’t have country based domain for Pakistan. so there is no question that Google is way popular than all other search engines, but I am talking about it’s primary domain ‘Google.com’ in particular which has also been elevated to No.1 position previously held by Yahoo.com for long time. Which again demonstrates that Google is getting even more popular in the US market.

  • Wedding Bells For Google And Twitter?

That possibility’s got the blogosphere all "a-twitter," pardon the pun. Earlier this week, Google activated its Twitter account and all Tweets broke loose. As of Friday morning, Google had more than 26,000 followers. Google is using Twitter!

The speculation is that, in a move similar to its purchase of YouTube, Google is interested in buying Twitter. Now, Google didn’t buy YouTube for its video capability-or at least not primarily. Google acquired YouTube in large part for its search tools. And it has paid off. Last summer, ComScore reported that YouTube’s search traffic for August surpassed Yahoo’s, which dropped some 5 percent in traffic from July.

Twitter, too, has enormous search potential-just take into account its roughly 3 million visitors a month. All those eyeballs make a huge potential customer base. And that’s something that Twitter hasn’t been able to capitalize on: The site has not (yet) turned its popularity into profits.

Twitter has become a phenomenon in recent months, with users responding to a simple question: "What are you doing?" That’s not too far afield from the Facebook prompt: "Username is " Coincidentally, Facebook recently offered $500 million for Twitter, an offer that was rejected.

Twitter users log into the free service from their computers or cell phones to share thoughts, or "tweets." Subjects can be personal or businesslike. Corporations increasingly are using the service as a way to keep in touch with their customer base. Considered a "microblogging" site, it shares many social networking attributes and users can follow what other people tweet about in their network posts.

Recent reports said Twitter founders are looking at taking an "initial stab at making money" by April. By then we’ll know whether that plan includes Google. Stay a-Twitter.

  • On the same day that the 150-year-old Rocky Mountain News announced that it was shutting down effective Friday for lack of revenue, Google News confirmed its plan to sell AdWords placement on its Google News searches.

The ads, which officially debuted Thursday, work as AdWords usually do, serving up pages related to the search terms (rather than news results from specific publications). Josh Cohen, a business product manager for Google, described the results as "similar to what you see on regular Google searches or Google Book Search."
